Following the remarkable performances of SDA Youth at the Europe Cup Youth Event, we can truly appreciate the journey taken. This year belonged to the boys, building on the successes of the girls from last year who also achieved first-place finishes. We celebrated our first Gold in the Boys Singles event, thanks to Mitchell's outstanding performance. The experience gained from competing in Round Robins during our SDA Youth events, followed by knockout stages, has equipped the players with the endurance needed for longer formats and demanding days of darts.
It was inspiring to see that three out of four players emerged at the top of their groups in the Singles, while both teams excelled in their respective pairs and Team events.
This year's Girls event introduced a team component, allowing the girls to compete in three different competitions for their Championship. With 23 teams participating, which I believe is the highest number of girls' teams in the event's history, the round robins featured more players than usual, resulting in groups of five and six. This made it particularly challenging to qualify, as only the top two from each group advanced to the knockout stages. Throughout the competition, the girls provided unwavering support for one another, encouraging each other with every dart thrown.
Both the boys and girls displayed tremendous resilience, digging deep to achieve results and seizing opportunities to hit that crucial winning double. The youth team consists of a 12-year-old, three 14-year-olds, a 15-year-old, and an 18-year-old. It was particularly fitting that Barry Watson secured the winning double in the Team event, earning them the Gold medal. This marked Barry's final youth dart as he represented Scotland Youth.
The boys returned home with Gold and Silver medals, crowned as Europe Cup Youth Team Champions, while Mitchell claimed the title of Europe Cup Youth Singles Champion and the team finished second overall in the Boys Championship. The fantastic news for the boys is that their Gold Medal victory has qualified them all for the World Masters in Hungary, where the youths will compete.
The Youth's will play World Masters on Thurs 30th Oct, World youth Open on Frid 31st Oct, World Master Stage Finals 1st Nov & World Championship Qualifier on 2nd Nov
